How to play

You get a country name and a blank canvas — no reference image. Draw the flag from memory, then hit Reveal & Score.

How the score works

An uneven tricolour still scores in the nineties. The right colours in the wrong order does not.

Stuck? Take a hint

Three structure hints per flag. Each one adds dashed guides — where the divisions fall, where an emblem sits, how the proportions work — and never a colour or a name. They do not change your score, but the result and the share card note how many you took.

How to draw the flag of Brazil

The flag of Brazil is a gold rhombus on a green field with a blue celestial globe at its centre, with 27 stars and banner. It flies at a ratio of 7:10.

The flag of Brazil — ratio 7:10

Step by step

  1. Start with the right shape. Brazil flies at 7:10 — for every 10 units of width the flag is 7 tall. Sketch that rectangle first; a flag drawn too square is the fastest way to lose layout points.
  2. Block in the background. Fill the whole flag with green first, then build the rest on top of it. Working from the largest area to the smallest keeps the proportions honest.
  3. Add the yellow, blue and white. A one-of-a-kind layout. Place these shapes by eye against the edges of the flag, not against each other.
  4. Finish with the globe, 27 stars and banner. Detail is the last ten percent of the score, so leave it until the colour blocks are down. Size and position count for more than drawing every line of it.

Brazil flag colours

The colour codes below are the ones to reach for if you are recreating the flag digitally.

ColourHexRGB
Green #009C3B rgb(0, 156, 59)
Yellow #FFDF00 rgb(255, 223, 0)
Blue #002776 rgb(0, 39, 118)
White #FFFFFF rgb(255, 255, 255)

What the flag means

The green field and gold rhombus come from the imperial houses of Braganza and Habsburg; the blue globe shows the sky over Rio on 15 November 1889 with the motto Ordem e Progresso.

Common mistakes

  • Centring the globe on the rhombus but forgetting the white band across it — and drawing far too few stars. There are 27, one per state plus the federal district.
  • The proportions are unusual: 7:10 is slightly squarer than the usual 2:3 rectangle.

A trick for remembering it

Green field, yellow diamond that never touches the edges, blue circle, white sash tilted upward to the right.
